Runners race to register for the Daniel Ellis Memorial 5K
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- Everyone will be a winner, especially those in need in Madison County after Saturday’s 5K honoring fallen Officer Daniel Ellis.
Ellis’ wife, Katie stood beside race organizers handing out t-shirts and race bibs Friday morning. Runners picked the items up during a pre-registration at Surge Promotions.
Organizers say the race benefits the memorial fund named after Daniel Ellis. Specifically, the money goes toward those in need in Madison County. Katie Ellis also hopes it helps send Richmond Police officers to the National Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony, where Daniel will be honored.
“I just can’t imagine going without them. They’re just family. They were family before but they’re definitely family now and they always will be. I feel like I’ve got a bunch of older brothers, a few younger brothers, 10 more dads, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything,” she says.
The race starts at 8:30 a.m. and runners, organizers and volunteers are meeting at Richmond Centre Mall. For more information on the race, head to http://www.officerdanielellismemorial5k.com.
