‘Run for the Ranch’ on Sept. 11 benefits unique foster care center
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – – Sunrise Children’s Services announced Thursday plans for the 2021 Run for the Ranch, 5K run/walk.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 11 in Winchester, Ky., to help raise funds for a local visionary foster care project, the Solid Rock Children’s Ranch.
The ranch, located on Stoner-Ephesus Road, was made possible through a generous land donation of 130 acres by Ms. Judy Singleton to Sunrise Children’s Services. Solid Rock Children’s Ranch, once constructed, will provide a new community of care for sibling groups in foster care.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for siblings in foster care to stay together and be cared for in a loving and nurturing environment,” said Sunrise President Dale Suttles. “Siblings often provide continuity and family stability during a separation from home and family. Separating siblings can intensify a child’s or youth’s grief or trauma. Placement decisions made to keep siblings together are particularly important for children and youth who have been raised together as siblings.”
Run for the Ranch begins at 8 a.m. at Mt. Zion Christian Church (3631 Combs Ferry Road, Winchester, KY 40391) and is expected to conclude by 11 a.m.
Cost to participate is $25 per person. A group of four or more is just $20 per person (Register as a Team/Group to receive this discount). For more information, go to https://www.sunrise.org/event/run-for-the-ranch-5k/ or contact Stacie McLaughlin at 859.333.2635.
