RPD: Man arrested after stealing from family

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Richmond man is behind bars after police say he stole thousands of dollars worth of items from a family member.

Officers charged 32-year-old Steven J. Sowers on Wednesday in connection to the thefts.  Police say one of Sowers relatives called them back in November, reporting the thefts.  Detectives say, upon further investigation, Sowers had been stealing from the home between September and November, possibly selling or pawning them.

According to officers, among the items stolen were two firearms, jewelry, appliances, and tools.  A release from Richmond Police estimates the value of the stolen items  $3,100 dollars.  Officers say they were able to recover a little over $1,500 dollars worth of the stolen property.

Sowers was charged with theft by unlawful taking, and theft by deception.  He was taken to the Madison Co. Detention Center.

On 01/6/2016, police charged Steven J. Sowers, age 32, N. Estill Avenue, in connection with the theft of numerous items from a relative.
