Rowan County meeting focuses on heroin crisis

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ)- Morehead is trying to come to grips with its heroin problem.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says the city recently had ten overdoses in a 24-hour period. And it says one person died.

About 60 people gathered Tuesday night at the Morehead Conference Center to talk about the drug crisis and what can be done about it.

Jackie Qualls of Morehead was in the crowd. She says, “It’s touching everybody’s family. These people overdosing, these people dying here have mothers, fathers, families. It’s a privilege and an honor to be able to come together as a group to pray for these people.”

The sheriff’s office says it will take enforcement, treatment and education for Morehead to fight drugs.
