Rowan County man accused in mother and daughter murders set for court hearing

ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A man charged in the murders of a mother and her teenage daughter in Morehead is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

According to court records, 44-year-old Joshua Cottrell is set for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. He faces charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the deaths of 37-year-old Kayla Blake and her 13-year-old daughter, Kennedi McWhorter.

Kentucky State Police say both victims were found stabbed to death on September 19 inside their home on South Spring Street in Morehead.

Cottrell entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment last week.
