Romney In Lexington To Endorse McConnell In Race For Senate

In 2012, Mitt Romney won 60% of voters in Kentucky. He’s back and the setting this time, Donamire Farm in Lexington, where he made a very public endorsement of Senator Mitch McConnell.

"And I’m looking forward to seeing him majority leader in the United States Senate,” said Romney to open up questions from reporters outside of an office building on the farm.

The occasion was a fundraiser for Team Mitch. Romney, in town little over one month shy of Election Day, looked to boost McConnell in a race nearing record numbers in expenses.

And while the race continues to gain national attention, McConnell, hopes to create a perspective for Kentucky voters.

"And from a Kentucky point of view, it puts a Kentuckian in charge of setting the agenda in the United States Senate,” said the incumbent candidate.

McConnell also took time to address the times he’s supported raising the minimum wage. This, after MSNBC reported this spring, Romney said, "I think we ought to raise it." That opinion, shared by McConnell’s challenger, Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes.

"I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, there have been times when I have voted to increase the minimum wage, when I thought the economy was such that it wouldn’t destroy jobs and when it also included a tax relief for some of the businesses who would be laying off people as a result,” said McConnell.

Romney on the other hand, wouldn’t touch the subject after McConnell’s comment. The former presidential candidate only stated he wasn’t going to talk about policy.

He did, however, discuss 2016.

"I’m not running, I’m not planning on running. I expect to be supporting one of the many people who I think are looking at this race,” said Romney.
