Robertson County Sheriff Terry Gray resigns after latest DUI arrest
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear says Robertson County Sheriff Terry Gray has resigned following his latest DUI arrest earlier this week.
Beshear announced the resignation Thursday during his weekly Team Kentucky update, just one day after his office sent Gray a letter urging him to step down or face removal proceedings for neglect of duty.
As previously reported, Gray was arrested Tuesday night in Mason County after deputies said he was driving recklessly with lights and sirens activated in a pickup truck. According to the arrest citation, the truck nearly struck a sheriff’s vehicle before stopping on Helena Road. Deputies said Gray appeared intoxicated and had a miniature bottle of Fireball whiskey in his pocket.
Gray reportedly told deputies he had been “trying to find” another vehicle he lost sight of near the Robertson–Mason County line and admitted to traveling more than 110 mph. This was Gray’s third DUI arrest in less than two years.
He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Monday, October 13.
