Robbery suspect leads police on chase through two counties
According to Lexington Police, they were notified that the Paris Police Department was chasing a vehicle inbound on Paris Pike near the Bourbon/Fayette County Line around 8:45 p.m. Dispatchers told officers that officers were chasing a suspect who was wanted for an armed robbery and they believed the suspect was still armed.
Lexington Police joined in on the chase near the county line and the chase continued inbound on Paris Pike until the suspect turned onto I-75 northbound, police say. Around mile marker 114, the suspect pulled over on the side of the interstate, got out of his car and started running. Lexington Police say he had a gun in his hand.
Police quickly stopped traffic in both directions on I-75 and started chasing him. Traffic was stopped for about 35 minutes, which led to massive backups on the busy interstate.
According to Lexington Police, officers chased the man to the Winburn neighborhood and eventually to a home on Ward Drive, where he was arrested.
Paris Police have not released any information on the suspect or why they were chasing him.
During the chase, Lexington Police say, in an unrelated incident, two people in a stolen car crashed into two other cars on Paris Pike at the I-75 underpass.
According to Lexington Police, the two men driving the stolen SUV got out and ran off after the crash. Witnesses told police that they had guns.
Police called the Air One helicopter to help search for the two suspects. No word yet on if they have captured anyone.
