Road closures starting Monday in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Drivers in Lexington should prepare for significant road closures and lane restrictions this summer due to construction projects.
Starting Monday, Southbend Drive will be closed from Clays Mill Road to Lafayette Parkway. The city has announced that crews will be working on installing a new sanitary sewer line at the creek crossing. This closure is expected to last throughout the summer, with the road slated to reopen in time for the first day of school on August 14th.
Additionally, lane closures are planned for parts of Leestown Road. Beginning Monday night at 7 p.m., Leestown Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction. The exit ramp from eastbound New Circle Road to Leestown Road will also be reduced to one lane. These closures are necessary for the construction of a double crossover diamond bridge, part of the New Circle Road widening project. This project is expected to be completed by 2027.
Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time due to these construction activities.
