Riley brothers plead guilty in 2022 Lexington shooting death of Elaina Mammen; sentencing set for May 1
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Two brothers charged in the 2022 shooting death of a Lexington woman have pleaded guilty and are now awaiting sentencing.
Hubert Riley and his younger brother Alexander Riley were arrested in December 2022 in connection to the death of Elaina Mammen. The shooting occurred in Lexington, and the brothers were both charged with murder following the incident.
Wednesday, both men entered guilty pleas in Fayette County court.
Hubert Riley pleaded guilty to murder, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and was designated a persistent felony offender. Prosecutors have recommended a 30-year prison sentence.
Alexander Riley pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree, five counts of wanton endangerment, criminal mischief in the third degree, and possession of a handgun by a minor. A 17-year sentence has been recommended.
Authorities say the shooting not only claimed Mammen’s life but also endangered others in the area at the time.
A formal sentencing hearing for both men is scheduled for May 1.
