Richmond taps homegrown talent as police chief, assistant chief
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – The city of Richmond celebrated homegrown talent Thursday

In front of a packed house of family, friends and coworkers, the City Commission officially named Rodney Richardson the city’s new police chief and William O’Donnell the new assistant chief.
Richardson is beginning his 24th year with the department. He credits the many positions he’s held during his tenure and his fellow officers with bringing him to this point.
“I promise, as Chief of Police, we’ll do our very best to honor what has been given to us and what job that we have to make sure that we solve the issues that our community is in need of,” Richardson said.
Both Richardson and O’Donnell were pinned during a ceremony in front of the Commission and the crowd. They officially take on their roles on Sept. 6. Both men had been serving in their positions in interim roles.
