Richmond softball tournament honors fallen officer

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- A dozen softball teams took advantage of the nice weather Saturday in Richmond to honor a fallen officer.

The teams played all day in the Daniel Ellis Memorial Softball Tournament to raise money for the Ellis Foundation.

The foundation raises money for scholarships for high school seniors.

It was founded in honor of Officer Daniel Ellis who was shot while trying to catch a robbery suspect in November 2015.

Officers say coming out to play softball is a great way to keep Ellis’ memory alive.

“We have a young department so it kind of gives them a chance to come out and learn a little bit about officer Ellis and what he’s about and what we do here at our P.D,” Devin Thomas said.

100% of all donations from the softball tournament are going to the Ellis Foundation
