Richmond Police: Search continues for suspects in shooting-stabbing

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – The city of richmond was already on edge after threatening graffitti was found in a bathroom at Eastern Kentucky University this week. The threat said people were going to be killed by thursday.That threat was also repeated on a social media post.

Then Thursday night, Richmond police received a call about a possible shooting and stabbing. Police tell ABC 36, however this incident was not related to that campus threat. The shooting happened on the corner of Ballard and Bellevue Drive.

Authorities say a group of about 20 people were gathered on the street just after 9 p.m. Witnesses tell police, members of the group were carrying guns, knives and bats. Investigators say a fight broke out and one person was stabbed twice and another was grazed by a bullet.

The person who was stabbed was taken to University of Kentucky hospital. Police were not sure of that person’s condition. We are told the person who was grazed did not go to the hospital.

Once police arrived on the scene, they say everyone ran away and they are still searching for suspects.

“We’re looking possibly for three people. it could be drug related, but we’re not absolutely sure,” said Major Steve Grant:

Eastern Kentucky University has released a statement in response to the incident.
They say the shooting and stabbing happened away from the campus, and there is “no indication of any danger to the campus community.”

The university also stressed there is no indication that this is related to the campus threat they received earlier this week.
