Richmond PD: Fleeing Driver Gets Out of Vehicle, Lets it Roll into Occupied Apartment
Shortly after 7:30 Thursday evening, an officer reportedly tried to pull over 36-year-old Dejuan Westberry, of Detroit, for allegedly driving through a stop sign at the Ballard Drive and Bellevue Drive intersection.
Police said when the officer put on his lights, Westberry sped up and made a quick turn onto Ballard, taking him into the back of an apartment complex.
By the time the officer got there, officials said he noticed the vehicle no longer had a driver, but was still rolling toward one of the buildings.
The vehicle crashed and caused a heavy amount of damage to the building, which was occupied, according to investigators.
Officers said Westberry dropped around half an ounce of marijuana before they found him hiding in a ditch in Robinson Terrace
Westberry was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police first and second-degree, first and third-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident, no operator’s license, trafficking marijuana, and tampering with physical evidence.
He was booked in the Madison County Detention Center.
