Rescue crews respond after boat takes on water at Lake Cumberland

SOMERSET, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad says crews were called to the Woodson Bend area of Lake Cumberland Saturday after a boat struck an object and began taking on water.

According to an official Facebook post from the rescue squad, units responded with three boats and divers on standby. A good Samaritan vessel was able to tow the damaged boat back to the dock before additional assistance was needed.

Officials said no injuries were reported, and the boat was safely removed from the water without incident.

The rescue squad is reminding boaters that as the season winds down and lake levels drop, rocks and trees are closer to the surface — posing increased hazards. They’re urging everyone to stay alert and always wear a life jacket while on the water.
