Report: Country House won’t run in the Preakness
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ/Daily Racing Form) – Kentucky Derby winner Country House will not run in the Preakness Stakes, according to the Daily Racing Form.
Trainer Bill Mott tells DRF Country House started to show signs he was becoming ill at Churchill Downs.
Mott says Country House has a cough but his appetite is good and he doesn’t have a fever.
“He’s acting like he’s going to get sick,” Mott tells DRF. “He’s off the training list, and if he’s off the training list he’s off the Preakness list.”
Mott says he believes Country House has a virus and that the horse will likely miss a couple of weeks of training.
Country House was declared the winner of the Kentucky Derby after stewards disqualified the first-place finisher, Maximum Security, for impeding the paths of several horses in the race.
Maximum Security’s owners says he will not be running in the Preakness Stakes either.
