Report: Charge against superintendent stems from sexual abuse investigation
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The charge against the superintendent of Franklin County Public Schools comes from statements he allegedly made during an investigation into a sexual abuse case involving a former middle school teacher. That’s according to the Herald-Leader newspaper.
The newspaper states Franklin Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Zachary Becker says Mark Kopp’s misdemeanor charge of attempted bribery of a public servant was in relation to statements he allegedly made to Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Montey Chappell, who was working as a school resource officer at Bondurant Middle School.
The former teacher accused in the case, Todd Joseph Smith, was indicted Tuesday on sexual abuse charges, according to the newspaper.
The principal of the school, Whitney Allison, was also indicted Tuesday for failure to report child neglect or abuse.
