Report: 4 suspended following K-Prep test investigation

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Four employees at a Floyd County elementary school are suspended following an investigation of standardized test scores, according to the Herald-Leader newspaper.

Those 2017 K-Prep test scores at Betsy Layne Elementary School were invalidated after results of the investigation by the Kentucky Department of Education were released this month.

According to the report, there was evidence that staff “deliberately altered student exams and provided inappropriate assistance” to improve scores.

Floyd County Superintendent Danny Adkins told the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper Wednesday, as a result, the district will no longer employ the following employees at the beginning of the next school year: principal John Kidd; assistant principal and building assessment coordinator Rebecca Ratliff; chief academic officer Tonya Williams; and teacher Jordan Kidd.

According to the Herald-Leader newspaper, Adkin said in a statement: “what happened in the Floyd County School System was an embarrassment and a terrible wrong.”
