Remembering Kentucky veteran Ronald Logan in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The state of Kentucky is mourning the tragic loss of Ronald Logan, a 76-year-old veteran and retired Lexington Fire Department Lieutenant, who passed away this week in a drowning incident.

According to the coroner, Ronald Logan died from accidental drowning late Wednesday night after failing to resurface from the water at a reservoir off Richmond Road near Coys Lane.

Mayor Linda Gorton expressed her condolences, highlighting Logan’s distinguished career and contributions to the community. Logan served as a lieutenant in the Lexington Fire Department and was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He was honored last year with induction into the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame and was an active member of Honor Flight Kentucky.

Thursday night, Honor Flight Kentucky posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, mourning the loss of Logan and describing him as a cherished member of their organization. Logan, who was pictured on the far left in their post, was known for his dedicated service as part of the Military Freedom Fest Honor Guard, participating in numerous “Welcome Home” ceremonies for Kentucky veterans.

Mayor Gorton also took to social media to pay tribute to Logan, stating, “We will remember Ron for his service to our city and country.”

Funeral arrangements for Ronald Logan have not yet been announced.
