Remains of Kentucky soldier killed in Korean War identified after 74 years

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The remains of a Kentucky soldier killed in the Korean War have been identified after more than seven decades.

According to Maggard Funeral Homes, U.S. Army PFC Rodger E. Fields of Busy, Kentucky, was reported missing in action near the Chosin Reservoir in December 1950 and later confirmed killed in action. He was 20 years old at the time.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency says Fields was identified through DNA and anthropological analysis. His remains had been considered non-recoverable for decades.

A graveside service with full military honors is scheduled for August 14 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Southeast in Hyden.
