Remains found nearly 45 years ago by Ohio River finally identified as Louisville man

CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) — Skeletal remains found nearly 45 years ago by the Ohio River in Carroll County have finally been identified as a Louisville man.

The remains were originally found in November 1980.

At the time, it was unknown whether those remains were associated with more remains found in September 1980 near Switzerland County in Indiana.

In 2005, using DNA testing, it was discovered both remains belonged to the same person.

Last year, Kentucky State Police submitted the remains to Othram in Texas to develop a DNA extract.

Information from the DNA extract helped a detective find a family member of the unknown person whose remains were found back in 1980.

A confirmation DNA test was obtained from this family member and detectives determined the remains belonged to Kenneth Linville, who was born in Louisville in 1939.

The cause and manner of death remains unknown.
