Red Mile’s Wiener Dog Races return in August
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Dogs will be off to the races at the upcoming Wiener Dog Races at Red Mile. The races will take place Sunday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 8 with a post time of 1 p.m.
The first set of races will have heats for wiener dogs, bulldogs and french bulldogs, all breeds under 20 lbs and a Comeback Champion for qualifying wiener dogs. The Aug. 8 races will feature wiener dogs, corgis, all breeds under 20 lbs and another Comeback Champion race.
The event offers free admission, $2 corndogs and $2 beers. Large tents for shade, baby pools and misters will be available to keep dogs cool, as well as water bowls to quench their thirst.
Pre-registration for the Aug. 1 races has passed, but pre-registration for the Aug. 8 races can be submitted until Monday, Aug. 2. If space allows, registration on the day of will be available.
Registration costs $20 per dog and begins at 11:30 a.m. The complete rules can be read here.
