Red flag warning issued for eastern Kentucky counties

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Several eastern Kentucky counties are under a red flag warning.

The warning is in effect on for Thursday from 1 p.m.- 8 p.m. for the following counties: Breathitt; Clay; Elliott; Estill; Floyd; Jackson; Johnson; Knott; Knox; Laurel; Lee; Leslie; Magoffin; Martin; McCreary; Menifee; Morgan; Owsley; Perry; Powell; Pulaski; Rockcastle; Rowan; Wayne; Whitley; Wolfe.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Outdoor burning is not recommended at this time.
