Record sales for Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Keeneland September Yearling Sale has made history, closing with a record-breaking $531.5 million in sales.
Over 12 sessions, more than 3,000 horses were sold, marking the highest total ever for a Thoroughbred auction worldwide. The sale also featured 56 yearlings topping $1 million, including a Gun Runner colt that sold for $3.3 million.
Officials say buyers from 33 countries participated, helping push sales nearly 24 percent higher than last year’s record. Keeneland leaders called the results a milestone for the industry and a sign of optimism for the future of racing and breeding.
Racing at Keeneland returns October 3 for the fall meet.
