‘Reconciliation’ meeting in Lexington touches on many topics

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- In recent months, Lexington has seen several meetings involving police, community leaders, and the African-American community. The goal is to promote unity, and understanding, especially after riots and looting in places like Ferguson, Missouri.

A meeting Friday night at Total Grace Baptist Church touched on a variety of topics. The church’s pastor rejected the idea that there’s already a "level playing field" between the races in America.

Pastor Michael C. Robinson says, "To say that it already is equal says to me as an African-American man, that you think I’m a criminal. Because the only way for my rate of incarceration to be so much higher than everybody else’s and there not be something flawed in the system suggests that I’m a criminal."

Lexington’s police chief and some members of the Urban County Council were also in attendance.
