Rain causes ceiling to cave in on Lexington family
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Heavy rains caused a family’s ceiling to fall down on top of them early Thursday morning, and while they were sleeping.
Talk about a rude awakening.
It happened on Redwood Drive.
It was around 6:30 in the morning when Timothy Rasberry and his family woke up drenched with their ceiling down on top of them.
He says once he heard the bang, his immediate reaction was to protect the grandchildren.
“Just a little bruising, a little soreness in the muscles but other than that we’re fine and there’s no breakage so we’re good,” says Rasberry about him and his wife’s injuries.
His two grandchildren were in bed with him and his wife.
The 7-month-old grand-baby suffered a few bumps on his head and the 7-year-old girl was bruised and scratched up.
“I mean I thank God that my grand-kids weren’t hurt, hurt at all actually. They just got a little scared but me and my wife we got minor bruises and bumps but it could have been a whole lot worse but Gods will, it didn’t.”
Rasberry says he didn’t notice any problems at all with the ceiling.
“The drywall it had apparently gotten soaked with all the rain and I guess it just couldn’t take the pressure of all the water and fell down on top of us,” explains Rasberry.
Jag Roofing Company says this damage is common with all the recent rain.
The owner, Jess Goodman, says they’ve had a spike in calls this week.
“So a lot of what we do people don’t usually call you when it’s hot and sunny and dry because they don’t really have an issue so when it starts doing stuff like this it kinda just makes an emergency situation come up,” says Goodman.
He says a way to help your home with severe weather is getting your roof checked annually.
Rasberry says thankfully, they have renter’s insurance.
The family will be staying in a nearby hotel until their home is fixed.
