Pursuit out of Richmond ends in crash in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A stolen vehicle call in Madison County leads to a chase that ended in a crash in Lexington Thursday afternoon.
According to the Richmond Police Department, they received a call from Hope Gilliard who said her car was stolen by her boyfriend, 33-year-old Thomas Oxendine, with her 14-year-old stepdaughter inside.
Richmond Assistant Chief of Police Rodney Richardson said, “They had been in a verbal argument and she had got out of the vehicle to go inside a business. While inside the business he got in the driver seat of the vehicle and fled the scene.”
Officers spotted the car on I-75 and tried to get the driver to pull over, but they say he took off.
That led to a chase that continued into Lexington.
Lexington Police Department says it was called around 2:15 p.m. to help in the pursuit.
They say when the suspect got to Man O’ War and Richmond Road, where officers were waiting, he crashed the car.
Police say he then got out of the car and ran,
He was caught and arrested by Madison County Sheriff’s deputies, who were helping in the pursuit.
Richmond police say the teenager in the car was not injured. Oxendine is now in the Madison County Detention Center.
