Public Service Commission Predicts Lower Natural Gas Bills

On Wednesday the state Public Service Commission predicted the cost of natural gas at the beginning of the winter season would be the lowest in ten years.

An estimated 44-percent of the state’s residents use natural gas to heat their homes.

According to the PSC’s analysis, the average resident can expect to pay about 12-percent less than last year at this time.

The reasons?  Natural gas prices are down about 20-percent from a year ago.  And, the amount of natural gas in storage to use this winter is at an all-time high, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.

The PSC did remind customers that the biggest factor in determining energy costs is the weather, not the price of natural gas.
