Public invited to child seat checkup during Baby Safety Month

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – September is Baby Safety Month and the Lexington-Fayette Health Department has teamed up with Safe Kids Fayette County to stress the importance of proper car seat installation.

“That is the safety device that’s going to keep your child safe in a vehicle,” said Sherri Hannan, coordinator with Safe Kids Fayette County.

Hannan says not knowing the weight limits and not tightening a harness may not sound like a big deal but, “Those small things can make the difference in that seat being a life-saving device, keeping that child from serious injury.”

And because not every child seat is the same, it’s important to know how to install it in your personal vehicle.

Hannah says anyone who wants a professional to assist them with a demonstration can come out to their car seat checkup event Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Joseph Beth Booksellers parking lot located at 161 Lexington Green Circle.
