Public bathrooms made available for Lexington’s homeless
The Lexington Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention is working hard to make basic necessities open and available for the homeless population in Central Kentucky.
Temporary bathrooms have been put in place outside of two city shelters and are available for anyone to use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There are currently three bathrooms located outside of the Catholic Action Center and six outside of the Hope Center.
They all are monitored at all times.
The Lexington Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention’s director Polly Ruddick says as public restrooms were closed due to the Coronavirus, there still remained a need to have facilities available overnight and during off hours to those not staying in shelters.
Ruddick says her office worked with the Division of Parks and Recreation to have them delivered.
They will stay as long as necessary.
She also says there are more bathrooms, as well as shower facilities, available at many public shelters, but they are only open certain days and during specific hours.
You can find that schedule, as well as more information on what’s being done to help those who are currently homeless here.
