Below is a letter sent out by Rezoning Committee Chair, Alan Stein:

Dear FCPS Families,

The proposed elementary, middle and high school attendance zones and the final recommendations of the Fayette County School Rezoning Committee are posted and available for your review at www.fcps.net/zones at the top of the page.

The final meeting of the school rezoning committee will be tomorrow, April 14, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Norsworthy Auditorium, at the district office located at 701 East Main Street.

At that time, the committee will present a summary of its proposals and the community will be invited to give public comment.  Members of the Fayette County Board of Education will be present to hear the input from the community and the meeting will be taped so that if any school board members are unable to attend, they can hear the comments at a later time.

The committee’s work is complete at this time.  All comments received through the Let’s Talk online engagement system from the date of our last meeting on April 8 until the school board takes final action on the proposal will be shared directly with members of the Fayette County Board of Education.  Any input from this point on should be sent to school board members rather than committee members.  Contact information for school board members is available at www.fcps.net/board.

The school board and committee will meet jointly at a date yet to be determined to discuss the proposal.  The board has not yet set a specific timeline for its deliberation and decision-making.

I want to personally thank the committed and tireless members of the school rezoning committee who volunteered hundreds of hours of their time to make this effort successful.  I am also grateful to the thousands of community members who participated in this process by attending committee meetings and public listening sessions, sending emails, making phone calls and submitting comments through Let’s Talk.  In all my years of community service and civic involvement in Fayette County, I have never seen an endeavor on this scale conducted so openly and publicly.

Everyone in our community should be proud of this process.  At the end of the day there is no way to develop a plan that everyone agrees with.  Our goal throughout this effort has been to make choices that are best for students and our community as a whole.  We have acted in good faith to accomplish that.  Thank you for being a part of this journey.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein

Fayette County School Rezoning Committee Chair
