Proposed bill to crack down on accessible parking abuse

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- A proposed bill that aims to crack down on offenders who abuse the accessible parking system is on its way to the House.

The approved committee approved bill would limit applicants to one free placard that has a unique identifier to the permit holder instead of inked numbers.

After the one free placard, any duplicate or replacement placard would cost $10 each.

There are pending changes to the renewal process and cycle are also in the proposal.

A lot of individuals abuse the system by using the placards after their expiration by changing the date.

This causes issues for those who are physically impaired and need easy access to the permit spots.

Easy access to the placards would change under House bill 81.

HB 81 now goes to the full House for its consideration.
