Distracted driving simulator impacts teens
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)–The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is partnered with SAFE KIDS of Fayette County to take its D2 (Distracted Driving) Simulator to students at Tates Creek High School on Tuesday.
The D2 simulator gives real-life exposure to the dangers of distracted driving without putting students at risk by mimicking and displaying the handling characteristics of a vehicle. Drivers can receive and send phone calls and text messages while attempting to obey the rules of the road.
:According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, text messaging creates a crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted.
