Prison on lockdown after officers attacked
EDDYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky State Penitentiary went on lockdown Wednesday after two corrections officers were attacked by inmates.
Kentucky State Police say they were called to the Kentucky State Penitentiary in western Kentucky around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday after a corrections officer was assaulted.
Police say one officers was assaulted as an inmate was being removed from a room.
Other inmates joined in before being restrained by other corrections officers.
The two corrections officers were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
The Eddyville prison is a maximum security facility that houses about 850 inmates.
The names of the corrections officers were not released.
Governor Matt Bevin tweeted about the incident Wednesday morning, saying the prison was in lockdown and that state law enforcement teams were helping officials on-site.
