Preparing for upcoming winter weather

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — With extreme winter weather forecasted, locals are stocking up on supplies to prepare their homes. Chevy Chase Hardware is seeing constant foot traffic as customers buy essentials like ice melt, scrapers, and pipe insulation.

“People for sure have heard about it [freezing temperatures] and want to be ready,” said Monique Ramangkoune, an employee at Chevy Chase Hardware.

Products like pet-friendly ice melt and faucet covers are in high demand, with freezing temperatures posing a risk of icy walkways and burst pipes, especially for older homes.

“We’ve got plenty of heated cable, pipe wrap, and outdoor faucet covers to help keep pipes warm,” Ramangkoune added.

Experts also recommend letting water drip from faucets to prevent freezing pipes.

Additionally, in the event of power outages caused by ice buildup, emergency supplies can help keep families safe.
