Prayer vigil held for teen who died Friday night after being pulled from Lexington reservoir

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Those in the community of Henry Clay High School continue to mourn, the loss of two students within two weeks.

On Friday night, officials were called to the area of Laketower Drive for reports of someone in the water, needing to be rescued.

Officials say divers found and rescued the 16-year-old later identified as Deon Davis, after about 40 minutes underwater.

Resuscitation efforts were initiated immediately, before Davis was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

On Sunday, a prayer vigil was held at Centenary Church on Tates Creek Rd. where friends, family and others who knew Davis gathered to remember the teen.

Davis was a member of the Henry Clay boys basketball team.

A pastor of Centenary Church says Davis was very involved with the youth group and had many friends.

A post of Deon was shared on the Facebook page of the Henry Clay boys basketball team on the weekend.

It reads in part, “the Blue Devil basketball community is deeply saddened by the recent tragedy that took the life of Deon Davis. Our hearts go out to his family, our teammates, parents, coaches, and all the lives Deon touched. He truly was loved by his teammates, parents, and most he crossed paths with. He will be greatly missed and forever a Henry Clay Blue Devil.”

The other student the community continues to mourn is Emmanuel Mwakadi, who died on May 10th from a medical crisis.
