Prankster could face charges for calling in bomb threat
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – An apparent prankster could face charges for calling in a bomb threat Thursday night at a Williamsburg retailer.
According to Williamsburg Police, at about 9:20 p.m. Thursday, officers were notified by Whitley County E-911, about a bomb threat at Wal-Mart at 589 KY Highway 92 West.
A preliminary investigation indicated someone called a worker saying a bomb had been planted inside the store.
Officers helped Wal-Mart employees and customers evacuate the store. Firefighters from Williamsburg Fire Department also responded and assisted officers secure the area, police said.
An explosives detection K-9 with the Kentucky State Police thoroughly searched the facility but found no indication of explosives, according to police.
WPD Officer Dorman Patrick Jr. is in charge of the investigation.
Officers assisting at the scene included Officer Jason Williams, Officer Angie Vanover, Officer Greg Rhoades, Officer Eddie Cain, WCSD Sgt. Jonas Saunders, and KSP Troopers Brandon Creekmore and Dallas Eubanks.
An ambulance with Whitley County EMS was staged near-by as a precaution during the incident. WPD continues to investigate.
