Powell County Detention Center hires two cats for rodent control

STANTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Powell County Detention Center has brought on two unusual deputies to handle a mouse problem.
After spotting a mouse in the facility, the detention center enlisted Binx and Ivy, two cats from the Powell County Animal Shelter, to serve as its new “anti-mouse task force.” The shelter partnered with Friends of Powell County’s Pets to make the placements.
Officials say cats are often difficult to place for adoption, but they can make great companions—and, in this case, valuable employees.
The detention center is also reminding the public to spay or neuter pets, keep vaccinations up to date, and consider adoption to help reduce pet overpopulation.
