Positivity rate climbing toward 14%, other numbers continue to set records
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’s almost a bad broken record — daily records for new COVID positivity, hospitalizations and just about every other major indicator of surge in the state.
Tuesday was no exception.
“Today, I am reporting 4,548 newly reported cases of COVID-19 – the 10th highest report since the pandemic began. I am also sad to report 23 deaths and an increased positivity rate of 13.66%. Come on folks, we need to do the right thing. Love your neighbor as yourself and protect one another,” Gov. Andy beshear said in an afternoon social media update.
The state’s daily report had mostly grim numbers.
The new cases pushed the state’s total to 577,051. Of the new cases, 1,407 are in people 18 and under. The 23 deaths raised the number of people lost to virus-related causes to 7,764.
The 2,274 people in the hospital is up from 2,198 Monday, which was the previous high. The 617 people in ICU is up from Monday’s record of 615 and the 406 on a ventilator is a new record, breaking Monday’s record of 361.
