Portion of Owensboro distillery collapses

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WTVQ) – A bourbon storage rickhouse collapse sent thousands of barrels of bourbon tumbling Sunday night in Owensboro.

The collapse happened around 12 a.m. at O.Z. Tyler Distillery.

The distillery says the rickhouse held 20,000 barrels, and about 4,500 barrels were involved in the accident.

Police closed off the road near the collapse because there are still unstable building sections standing.

It is unknown what caused the collapse, but the storms that went through the area overnight may have been a factor.

Last year a bourbon barrel warehouse holding 20,000 barrels collapsed in Bardstown.
