Political commentator weighs in on Beshear possible VP pick
(ABC36 NEWS NOW) — With President Joe Biden stepping out of the race for re-election, there’s increasing talk that Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear could be selected as Kamala Harris’ vice presidential candidate if she is formally nominated.
Local political analyst Tres Watson weighed in on the potential implications of this pick. “Politically, I don’t know what Andy Beshear brings, really. The other mentioned candidates like Josh Shapiro, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, and Mark Kelly, a senator from Arizona, bring some electoral oomph with them. Kentucky is not going to move. So I’m not sure what the political win for Harris picking Andy Beshear would be unless the other candidates simply don’t want to do it. They see it as a sinking ship and don’t want to attach themselves to that.”
The official nominees for President and Vice President are expected to be announced during the Democratic National Convention, happening August 19th through 22nd in Chicago. Stay with us for more updates as the political landscape continues to evolve.
