Police: Woman arrested – dropped a baby while on drugs

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — Franklin County Deputies, County Fire, and EMS were sent out after a witness reported an infant being dropped onto the shoulder of the road on June 11.

The Franklin County Sherriff says deputies arrived to find a vehicle had broken down under the I-64 overpass on KY 151. The 6-month-old infant was found and treated on the scene by Fire and EMS personell, says officials, and the child’s father called.

The deputies discovered the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of drugs, and say they were given consent to search the vehicle.

 In her wallet, deputies say they found two suboxone and half a generic xanex. They also say they found a folded dollar bill with an off-white powder police say was heroin.

Shanique S. Chandler, the driver, was arrested and taken to Franklin County Regional Jail, where she was searched and found to have a bag of marijuana tucked into her bra.

Chandler is being charged with the following:

  • Public Intoxication – Controlled Substance

  • Endangering the Welfare of a minor

  • Posession of Marijuana

  • Drug Paraphernalia

  • Posession of controlled substance (First degree – heroin, Second, and Third degree)

  • Promoting Contraband, first degree

  • Illegal possession of a prescription drug

The child was taken by its father, who reportedly told police that he’d be taking it to St. Joseph’s Hospital for care.
