Police: Traffic stop leads to arrest in large counterfeiting operation
OWINGSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police are led to a Bath County home following a traffic stop and find fake money, card skimmers and stolen documents.
The Owingsville Police Department says Eric Craig was pulled over by an officer on Slade Avenue over the weekend. The officer says Craig gave him a false name and, while he was at the police station, another officer recognized him from a counterfeiting arrest last year. The department says it got a tip that Craig was counterfeiting money again and got a search warrant for his home.
Officers say in Craig’s home on Old Peasticks Road, they discovered large amounts of counterfeit money, half printed money, along with printers and printer paper that was being used to make the counterfeit money. They say the printers still had the counterfeit money in them.
Also during the search, officers say they found numerous card readers and suspected card skimmers, along with stolen personal documents, registration plates and motel room keys.
The Owingsville Police Department believes Craig was not only operating out of Bath County, but in the Lexington area as well.
