Police to make rounds in Laurel Co. schools
LAUREL CO., Ky. (WTVQ) — Sheriff John Root of the Laurel County Police announced that they will be conducting unannounced and regular visits to all Laurel County schools this year.
Police say these visits are made in collaboration with the Laurel County School Superintendent and the East Bernstadt Independant School Superintendent.
He says Deputies will walk through each elementary, middle, and high school in the county, with the goal of making schools a safer place for students and staff. According to Sheriff Root, all Laurel County deputies have received special training regarding violent intruders at schools, and how to conduct room searches, hostage situations, or rescue operations in the instance that an armed intruder is involved.
