Police: Three carjackings in 24-hours could be connected

LEXINGTON, Ky, (WTVQ) – Lexington Police are looking for whoever stole a car, a truck and tried to take another car all within 24-hours.

Investigators say all three situations are similar: men held the victims at gunpoint while stealing, or trying to steal, the vehicles.

Officers say the three are likely connected but it is too soon to know for sure.

Monday morning a woman was walking out to her pick-up truck on East Loudoun Ave. when she was approached by two armed men with bandannas covering their faces, according to police.

Police say the men demanded the keys to her truck then took off it in.  The truck has not been found.

Around 45-minutes later, police say a man in the Farrington Apartment Complex on Laredo Drive was approached by three men with guns who demanded the keys to his car.  His Chevy Malibu was later found in the parking lot a short time later.

Sunday morning police say a man was slowly driving along Seventh Street when four men opened his car door, put a gun to his head, stole his cash and cell phone then told the man to get out of the car.  Instead, the man drove to Breckenridge Street where he was able to safely call 911.

To avoid a carjacking, Lexington Police say to be aware of your surroundings and keep your eyes open.  Officers also say to follow the victims lead and drive away if someone tries to approach your car.
