Police Standoff Lasts Hours Near Downtown Lexington

A heavy police presence filled a city block near downtown Lexington late Sunday night into early Monday morning. East Main Street and Bell Court were shut down for hours while police had a standoff with a suicidal man.

Lexington Police got the call around 10 Sunday night from a person saying their friend was going to harm himself. When police got to the home they say a man answered the door with a gun, refusing to give it up.

That’s when the SWAT team got involved, shutting down the block and evacuating some homes near there according to police.

Crisis negotiators were also brought in to talk with the man. After negotiating for some time the man came out of his home, unarmed and voluntarily went to an area hospital.

The standoff ended around 1:30 Monday morning. No one was injured.
