Police: Shots Fired Near Lexington School

Lexington Police said shots were fired Monday afternoon near Lafayette High School.

Although school had been out for the Labor Day holiday, youth football tournament was being held at Lafayette.

Investigators said nobody was hurt by the gunfire.

According to police, a woman told officers that the shots had been directed at her.

She told officers that she had been followed by some relatives of an ex-boyfriend.

The woman said that when she stopped to confront the relatives, a man shot a gun in her direction.

Kimberly Burris said that she had just gone into her house when she heard the shots.

"It’s scary and it makes me really concerned for our young people and the apparently easy access to guns that people have," said Burris.

Lexington Police Sergeant Scott May said, "It’s pretty irresponsible, immature I think is a good word, irresponsible.  That’s just not anywhere close to being proper conduct."

As of publishing, police had not made an arrest.
