Police say they found parole violator hiding in trap door
MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WTVQ/WRIL) – A 36-year-old parole violator faces drug trafficking and other charges after police say they found him hiding in a trap door in his home and a significant amount of drugs in the home.
Benjamin ‘Peanut’ Collins was charged Thursday after Middlesboro Police and state Probation and Parole officers found him during a search of a home on Ray Hatfield Lane in Bell County, WRIL radio reported.
Officers went to the home and found a car in the driveway but no activity and no response to knocks at the door. Through a window, officers Ryan Collins and Chris Barnes along with parole officer Christy Gibson, WRIL reported. That prompted Collins to get a search warrant and return to the home.
According to the radio station report, the officers found the door unlocked and entered the home, where they found the methamphetamine they’d seen through the window as well as drug paraphernalia. Collins spotted a trap door in the bathroom and inside, he found the suspect lying on the ground, apparently asleep or passed out, the station reported.
After a short period of time, Collins woke up and came out of the floor without incident telling the officers he was actually awake the entire time. Collins went on to say he went under the house to hide during the officers’ first visit earlier in the day and simply passed out, WRIL reported.
When they got him out, they found more meth where he was hiding and Collins later admitted he had more drugs at the home. The officers found 32 grams of meth and suboxone, according to the radio station.
Benjamin “Peanut” Collins was served the parole violation and two outstanding warrants and charged with second offense first-degree trafficking, marijuana possession, drug possession and paraphernalia possession, the station reported.
