RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Law enforcement agencies throughout Kentucky guided a procession this morning as the body of slain Richmond Police Officer Daniel Ellis was taken from Frankfort to Richmond.

Investigators say Ellis died early this morning at U.K. Hospital in Lexington. State police say he had been in critical condition after being shot Wednesday during a robbery investigation at a Richmond apartment complex.

State police say an autopsy was done this morning at the Medical Examiner’s Office before Ellis’ body was moved to Oldham Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

According to investigators, three people are charged in the shooting. Troopers say another officer who was with Ellis at the apartment returned fire, hitting the suspect, Raleigh Sizemore. According to state police, Sizemore was treated for gunshot wounds and charged with attempted murder of a police officer. Investigators say that charge will now be upgraded to murder of a police officer.

State police say two other suspects in the apartment, Gregory Ratliff and Rita Creech, are also facing charges in the shooting.

Ellis leaves behind his wife and son.
