Police name man accused of shooting deputy in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ky. (AP) – Authorities have identified the man arrested and accused of shooting a Simpson County deputy who was serving a warrant for a domestic violence assault in Franklin.

Kentucky State Police Trooper B.J. Eaton said in a news release Friday that upon being released from a hospital, Ben Wyatt III was arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer, among other charges.

Police say Deputy Eddie Lawson was serving Wyatt with an arrest warrant Thursday afternoon when Wyatt shot Lawson and fled before being apprehended and hospitalized. The deputy was listed in stable condition.

It is unclear whether Wyatt has an attorney.
